The most awaited collegiate sports league is back in the Philippines, after being on hiatus for two (2) years, this coming March 26th year of 2022 is the official comeback of the said event at the Mall of Asia Arena. This season’s host will be the De La Salle University, the UAAP had looked at the Mall of Asia Arena, Araneta Coliseum, Ynares Center and FilOil Flying V Arena as venues for the games. However, due to existing limitations brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, these are the sports you will get to see in the Season 84: men’s 5-on-5 basketball, men’s and women’s 3x3 basketball, women’s indoor volleyball, men’s beach volleyball, men’s and women’s chess, poomsae, and cheerdance competition. One of the reasons behind this quick tournament is by preventing student-athletes from being caged in a bubble for a long time. In addition, fans and members of the press will not be allowed to go inside the bubble, at least, in the first round said by Emmanuel Calanog, UAAP President. The UAAP will consider allowing the fans and the press at the venue if things go well. The UAAP also says that several schools will not be able to participate in some events, a total of eight (8) schools have already committed to participate in events such as basketball, volleyball, and cheerdance, however there are some schools that expressed that they are unable to put teams for other events. There will be a strict implementation of health protocols to assure that the players are safe inside the bubble. In assuring everyone is safe during this season, antigen testing will be given to all inside the game in which RT-PCR tests will be conducted every 14 days to see that all the players are tested and safely monitored during the collegiate league Season 84 games.

Some of you might ask, what is or what does UAAP mean, well to give you a brief insight, UAAP or also known as University Athletic Association of the Philippines was established in 1938, this is a sports association of eight universities in the Philippines, traditionally each year teams from the universities plays in 15 sport games. In addition, basketball being the most popular sports in the country, is the most watched and most supported among all the sports. All the sports that UAAP conducts have Men’s and Women’s division, except for baseball which only men participate and softball which women only participate. The following sports has a junior division, in which the associated high schools of the universities participate: for both Boys' and Girls' (swimming and volleyball) and for Boys' only (track and field, chess, football, judo, taekwondo, table tennis and swimming). With this Season 84 games, there will no be fans allowed inside the MOA Arena, the committee will review possible fan attendance by the second round depending on the prevailing Covid-19 situation and approval by concerned government agencies. This year’s men’s basketball tournament will serve as the testing ground for other sports, including the top spectator events like women’s volleyball, and the fan-dependent cheerdance competition. As the most-anticipated event the return of UAAP Season 84 will be aired online, fans are not yet allowed to be on the actual games, but the good thing is that it will be broadcast via Cignal TV, which it promises to give and bring a comprehensive coverage of basketball games. The games for this season will be shown in HD live at One Sports, and the UAAP Varsity Channel 263.
